My Grading Scale
There are a lot of review sites out there that use grading scales like 5 stars (THEM Anime Reviews), percentages (Anime Academy) or what have you. I’m just choosing to go with a 10 point scale with half marks because it suits me better.
But what do those marks mean, exactly? Let me show you!
1.0 – The worst of the worst. A manga has to either use zero effort or try really, REALLY hard to get this rating.
2.0 – Fail, but not THAT fail. Maybe one or two redeeming qualities that stop it from getting a one, but a series that gets this should definitely be passed on.
3.0 – 4.0 – On the low side of mediocre, depending on your preferences. These manga are flawed in various degrees of severity, but not to the point of allowing a rating any lower. Manga with this range of rating are both significantly flawed and don’t appeal to me (for example, a bad harem manga), but if you’re into this sort of thing, you would probably find it more enjoyable than me.
5.0 – Middle-of-the-road mediocre. Based on your preferences, you might not agree with me on whether you’d want to visit this again or not.
6.0 – On the higher side of mediocre. This series has its flaws, but it’s worth at least a try.
7.0 – Good, or bronze ranking. Its in the upper half of the pack, but there are flaws that are preventing it from being part of the cream of the crop.
8.0 – Great, or silver ranking. This series is on the higher side of the spectrum, in terms of quality. Definitely worth a revisit, but there are either subtle or glaring flaws that prevent the awarding of a 9.0.
9.0 – Awesome, or GOLD ranking! This manga is great, it rocks, now GO READ IT NOW. Perfection is an elusive thing, but the series that receives this comes pretty darned close.
10.0 – This series is an achievement, or platinum ranking. If you’ve read this and loved it, you have great taste. If you haven’t read this yet, you need to do so ASAP. If you hated it….I really don’t know what’s wrong with you (LOL JOKING! ^_^). Basically, this series deserves a look, no matter what your preferences are.
